Why is soccer so popular???
I really dont get it, its not even a real sport you kick a ball around and when someone falls he rolls around crying hoping to get the other played kicked off the field..
In america we have football, this is a real mans sport where you must be strong, fast and intelligent, because there are a lot of tactics involved not just kicking a ball into a huge net.
is it normal to think soccer doesnt deserve this popularity?
How did it get so popular anyway, because of european imperialism??

    Soccer (known as football in the rest of the world) is definitely better than American "football". That game is boring, violent and nonsensical.

      Violent, yes. Nonsensical, well if so then all sports are also. Boring, I have to disagree. Personally I like both football and American football.

        Think about it this way: It's called "football", but american "football" isn't played with the feet. It's carried and passed around for most of the game. Another thing is that the "football" is not a ball, it's like a stretched out sphere so its name doesn't make any sense.

    I don't like football (soccer) but to say it requires no skill is just wrong, plain and simple. The sport relies on being fast, skilled, and balanced, it also requires much faster reflexes due to it being a faster sport than American football.
    You also have to realize, holding a ball and running trying to avoid people is far more easier than kicking a ball and having to navigate it, dodge people without using any physical contact, and avoid people with skill with less control of the ball due to having to kick it to travel, not hold it to travel.

    I think football (soccer) is a sport of art, regardless of me not ever wanting to watch it, where as American football is mainly about whaling on eachother.

    I honestly believe football takes a lot more skill than american football. That being said I also believe american football is a pussy mans rugby league.

      Seriously. I love it when Americans compare soccer to American football and get some sense of machismo out of it, when American football is like the pajama party pillow fight version of rugby.

      And either way, what the fuck does it matter how much blood is shed? All of these sports take incredible skill to master. What I love about soccer particularly though is its internationality - the World Cup is thrilling to me because the entire world watches it.

    You obviously don't understand the first thing about soccer. First of all, a football game have a total of around 11 minutes of action, my grandma can run for 11 minutes, soccer have at least 90. If you think that in soccer there are no tactics, I suggest you watch few games. In soccer, every player have a very important part, while in football there are a few runners and a bunch of refrigerators with legs. Football is basically a bunch of guys running into each other to stop the other team, that's why they have to wear more protection gear then heavy infantry, in soccer you actually have to use tactics to stop the other team, not just run into them. I don't have strength to continue with this, so if anyone want to finish the list, go ahead. In short, I think that for those and other reasons, soccer (or football, as its called anywhere outside USA) is very popular all around the world, while American football is only popular in USA.

    I don't like the ankle grabbing dramatics of football but it is unfortunately a tactic that works.

    "Strong, fast and intelligent." Are you serious? Thick, greasy or a rapist is closer to the mark.

    I follow Australian rules football but I appreciate the high skill and strategies involved in "soccer".

      on the fools that made fun of me. I just when bare with no protection and beat the shit out of their trunks as hit them to the turf it was cool the were so slow i would come from behind and jump like a lion and put them to the ground, while some of them ate dirt and turf in the process

    Put it this way:
    Who runs for 90 minutes (45 minute halves) and who runs for one minute while getting a break every play?

    USA has pretty much every "big" sport, let someone else have Football (Soccer) haha :P

    I'm Mexican-American btw and if their was an American Football World Cup they'd most likely win.

    Not to be racist, but here in America, many people have contempt towards football (soccer). Many people still love it though. In other countries, almost all the people like football, unless they don't follow sports at all.

    Football is international! everyone can relate to it or said they've played it. Whether you be boy or girl, or from a completely different country, you will know how to play it.
    American Football seems limited, mostly men play it, to much stuff to wear JUST to be safe, and in all honesty way to much strategy and rules to have fun.

    Football is played in every continent.

    Not liking soccer is perfectly normal. Well all have our personal preferences. However, I strongly disagree with your thought that soccer doesn't require intelligence and tactics. It's much harder than you think to "kick a ball into a huge net."
