    FTW?!
socialism isn't the opposite of democracy.
SM is financial idea while DY is governmental ideology.

I know many people think of the USA as a democracy, but in reality, it's a republic, with elements of democracy.

In fact, just a few people really have the power to change things in any democratic country. The people have virtually no say. So, don't stress out, democracy is just a mirage.

    I prefer socialism:)

My country is "democratic" and they're severely behind places like Europe and the gov has failed on all accounts.

      How do you define Socialism?

Considering the fate of Karl Marx, the USSR and the PRC don't you think it's possible that there might be something better out there than Socialism?

Karl Marx's ideas were the basis for Communism. The USSR was communism. I think it depends on the country. Some government types work for one country but can fail for the other. I went to London and I got sick. Even though I was a citizen, I still didn't have to pay anything. Had I gotten sick in my country, the bill would've been sky-high. The decisions the EU makes benefits the countries. It's like they really care about Europe. Look at america's government and and compare it with England. Tell me which you think is better.

Only by their "definition", they were not. In practice, they were.

In the 21st century there is no need for politicians, why do we have to pay someone to represent our views, when we could easily vote personally, using the internet and computer technology.

Considering most of the people I hear say this are capitalists, and live in a capitalist nation, my take is they don't even know what Democracy truly means.

Yes, I think so. But it sucks less than the alternatives.

Democracies work only on a small scale. On larger scales, Republics work much better.
