Is it normal to think the internet has a negative effect on people?

Is it normal to think that the internet has a net negative effect on people and their ability to socialize in the REAL world? I don't know if its just me, but it seems as though ever since the mainstream emergence of the internet, people just isolate themselves in front of their computer more and more all the time. It's the ultimate paradox: the more "connected" we are technologically, the more distant we are emotionally and socially. Is this really happening? Anybody else notice this?

Yes! There was a news article in the magazine about why kids are so mean these days. And the reason was...the Internet! They're dramatically loosing their face to face social skills. :/

Internet is like anything else, there's use, overuse and misuse or abuse. Unfortunately the Internet is slowing killing real life social relationships. Teens in particular spend a lot of time on their computers instead of investing the time with family, exercising, meeting new friends or developing a hobby.

I agree with you most of us misuse or even abuse the Internet and that has a tremendous effect on family and personal relationships.

  • People on the internet, stories, and the whole media build up does affect people. Especially children who act grown up and think it's cool to sign up onto social chat sites without realising what they're getting into. Sites like facebook always bring out the worst in people.
