Is it normal to think time travel will never be invented

I mean think about it. If time travel is invented in the future, wouldn't we be seeing time travelers from the future come back in time? But that never happens. So it's safe to assume that because we don't see time travelers from the future show up today, that time travel will never be invented in the future.

John Titor. They're probably very adept at doing it responsibly and don't want to upset the space-time continuum so they don't want to be noticed.

Op, I think Stephen Hawking held a party for time travellers. Nobody showed up (poor kid). But he'd made invitations etc so future people would know about it.
So yeah, what you're saying is true - where are the time travellers? (but I still hold out hope).

Truth be told, we have no idea what will happen to the fabric of space-time once we tear a hole in it. It might unravel completely. Time travel and things that seem to break our laws of physics can have nasty unforeseen consequences, and that's even in the best of situations. Changing the timeline by traveling in the past and paradoxes would be so common I don't think they would allow the technology to exist. It would be by far the most destructive weapon ever devised. We are nowhere near ready for that kind of responsibility as a species.

The OP states: "If time travel is invented in the future, wouldn't we be seeing time travelers from the future come back in time? But that never happens. So it's safe to assume that because we don't see time travelers from the future show up today, that time travel will never be invented in the future."

That is not a safe assumption. How can you know there are no time travelers from the future in the present?

What do you think Jesus was? And Leonardo da Vinci, Isaak Newton, Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford?
Many, many of the great men of history have produced ideas and designs for things which weren't invented for ages and many others invented unbelievable, futuristic things.
The time travelers are all around us, but chose to stay out of the lime light, especially these days.
Don't be fooled, they walk among us, just as aliens do.

I am nobody's wife. Neptune is my father and mother ocean my mother. My mate is a mermaid and we ride dolphins across the sparkling blue waters of the world.

WHAT IF they would disguise then to don t interfere with the present-past? I think you cannot say of something that does not exist just because you haven t seen it

As someone else said, if you travel back in time you probably have some very strict rules to follow (Don't let people know that you are a time traveller, don't change anything etc)

Time travel forwards and time travel backwards are two different things. Time travel forwards wasn't invented as such, but was predicted by Special Relativity and has been demonstrated and verified to be true. It happens whenever any of us move. It only becomes noticeable when we move at a significant fraction of the speed of light, though. If you want to know more, Google "time dilation".

Time travel backwards isn't predicted by anything in the current model. Most scientists don't believe it's possible to go back in time, only forward in time.

I've tried to learn about time dilation many times, but I can never understand how it is anything more than an optical illusion.

It's a very strange concept, at odds with what we perceive with our own eyes. It all comes down to referential frames. Think of them like rooms. The speed time passes in a room depends on how fast the room is travelling. If time is passing twice as slowly for you, you'll only get through ten years in the "time" other people get through twenty. When you come out of the room, after ten years, it'll be the year 2034, not 2024, so effectively you've gone ten years into the future (although it's also taken you ten years to do it).

The part that I always get hung up on is trying to measure your "passage of time" against that of an object that is speeding away from you close to the speed of light.

After all, the passage of time only really matters if we have a strict definition of what is past, present, and future. And relativity tells us that this can change depending on which reference frame you are in.

What purpose does it serve us to compare "our time" against "their time" when they are so far away that we can't even communicate in "real time"?

According to one theory it is impossible. Their is a theory that time does not exist. It says that instead of going through time that space is just a blanket that the planets float on. Gravity is what happens because they are circling the around the dent in space. http://youtu.be/jKJCkqHsiZU There is another theory which says there is multiple layers. The 4th dimension is suppose to control time.

<a href="http://youtu.be/eGguwYPC32I" http://youtu.be/0LPtnzLhYsg Here is the fourth dimension theory. This kid is not me but I thought this was a very clear and simple way of explaining it. http://youtu.be/yqzgYRBlslw and another video about the theory of time being an illusion.

• Time travel would only create alternate dimensions. The future they came from would remain unaffected.
