Is it normal to throw garbage out of a car window while on a highway?
Sometimes I like to throw garbage out of my car window while driving 60+mph on a highway. I usually eat in the car while on a business trip to save time and then am left with empty wrappers, used napkins, and drink cups. Instead of cluttering the interior of my car with this garbage, I will usually fire them out the window onto the ground. The drinks are great because they often skip across a couple lanes when they hit the ground! I usually wait to do this until there are few, or no, cars anywhere close to me. I normally throw the garbage out of the driver's side window, although I do sometimes fire the trash out of the sunroof. Every once in awhile I will also throw a newspaper or a few old magazines out the window, although they aren't as fun to throw.
It's a shame that McDonald's no longer uses Styrofoam containers for its burgers - when I was a kid my dad and I would throw those Styrofoam containers out the window and watch them float up in the air until landing on the highway road!
I think that this practice is harmless. Although some people are anti-littering, there are many volunteer groups who adopt sections of highways and clean up garbage. From a certain point of view, I am giving them purpose and something to do!
