Is it normal to use ur finger to get ur poo out?

I am disabled and on many meds which cause constipation. I take a stool softner every night. This has only been going on for about six months. I have been using my finger to get my poo out several times a day. I feel better after reading all your posts on this subject. I googled it and found this wonderful site. Thank you all for all your suggestions. This morning I decided to read a magazine and try going without the use of my finger....success:-). I am going to continue to add fiber to my diet...have a hot beverage in the morning....read email (That always gives me the urge)....take my time....massage my stomach counter clockwise...and do anything else I can think of to stop this before it gets out of hand.

I'm afraid it's not. I once, when I was a kid, due to bad diet habits, tried to take a bowel movement and the damn wouldn't come out. So, I forcefully "wiped" it out using toilet paper. It took a LONG time and a ton of paper so, consequently, I stopped up the toilet.

Thanks for ur reply and not being judgemental. I use bath and body works ...warm vanilla sugar shower gel on my hands afterwards. It works well. So far I have not needed to use my finger since my first post...almost a week. Feeling a little bloated but feeling better about my dirty little secret.

No it s not normal, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I knew someone who had to do this, it turned out she was allergic to gluten and it was wreaking havoc on her Isides. Now she's on a gluten free diet and doesn't need to do that anymore. You mght want to find out if you have any allergies like that you don't know about.

Well, she found out via a blood test she had done because of all the digestion issues. But I guess if you didn't want to do that you could just try going on a g free diet and see If it improves after a couple weeks.

Just keep your fingernails short if you really have to do this.
