Is it normal to want a fresh canvas instead of erasing?

I'm not afraid to admit I'm neurotic when it comes to drawing on canvas. So much that I have wasted a dozen canvases drawing the same thing over as I seek to get everything perfect. It's so draining that even when I'm not at my desk drawing from this picture, thoughts about it pervade my mind when I'm at the gym or going for a walk. It's like I'm so concerned with perfectionism that I haven't gotten anything completed (the drawing and painting). Months have gone by and I have yet to produce anything. I keep purchasing canvases and wasting them because if I find that something isn't exactly how I want it I want a fresh canvas to start over again. I don't like erasing too much. Is this normal?

try acrylic color, you can paint it over and over again. I take a picture the way it comes. It helps me completing when I plan to paint a gift for somebody, so one day it REALLY needs to get ready (for his/her) birthday. It works quite well. My problem is that I love painting a lot, but my problem is just to star. I have sketched it and applied a layer of color over it (i dont know the right word in English, sorry) and there it lays waiting on my living room table.....- hey: nobody is perfect, you know!

Do what I do. Hang up a blank canvas and fantasize about what you want paint on it without ever actually touching it.

Yes and no. You'll burn through your finances if you keep wasting canvas! Draw lightly and find a good eraser.

Why don't you just gesso over it instead of scrapping the whole canvas? Stretching canvases is a bitch. Idk why you'd wanna do it any more often than you'd have to.

If you don't like erasing because it can leave marks behind, I suggest drawing lightly at first or experiment with erasers and find one that suits you well. Also try digital drawing. You could get a tablet and hook it up to your laptop or desktop and when you won't have as much as a problem because it can disappear completely and starting a new canvas doesn't cost anything.

I think you could benefit from a therapist. You seem to have a high need to be perfect ... and I fear for your health as this struggle for perfection is causing a lot of problems in your life.

Are you throwing them away? If you are...
Have you thought about donating the canvases ...completely erasing them and donating them to art classes in schools. It just seems like such a wast

You could donate them if you feel they might get more use...
or having unfinished peices could help people learn steps.
you should take photos from start to when you are done or almost done... post tge steps online to help other learn.

But so many artists can not afford art supplies that you may be able to help them :)
I still highly recommend a theripist tho.
