Is it normal to want to be popular?

In all of my classes are popular people, and I have only one friend in my classes. But I cant hangout with her all the time cuz most of the time shes sick. So i've been wearing better clothes and makeup and trying to be like them. Is this normal?

I think it's really silly when people want to be popular or put popularity over their education and friendship. When you leave school, no one's gonna give a shit whether you were popular or not popular or a geek or whatever. They're just gonna care about your grades so why go through all of the trouble trying to push yourself up the invisible hierarchy just to get attention and hang out with people who aren't necessarily that close to you.

  • What's so good about being popular? I hate having more attention than necessary.

Yea,the above ppl are right. I used to be all paranoid towards the end of high school cus of thinking that maybe I didn't fit in or wasn't popular enough even though ppl knew me since from elementary school years and I worried about what others thought of me but now that im in college Im my old self,I act the way I want and I dont worry at all about what others think of me...U should do the same.Be yourself.Dare to be BOLD.Good luck

I'm recalling a commercial for some teen show where they say 'you don't have to be popular to be AWESOME!' Its true. It seems so important in school, but afterwards, no one cares. A lot of the popular kids I went to school with are either fat losers now or dead from drug overdoses. That's not cool. Just be who you are without trying. That's the cool thing to do in my opinion

Normal, yes. Important, no. Coming from someone who was popular in highschool, I'm still close friends with three people and randomly talk with a few others. Find real friends no matter what their status is

in school it seems like the most important thing in the world. but I swear, when you're out of high school, none of that stuff matters!

I know exactly how you feel, and it's taken me until grade 12 to have friends. I used to have other friends but then I decided they weren't good enough because I got talked about, was made fun of. I worked my way into a group of people of a little 'higher status' and I feel like I fit in now. They may not be best friends, but we get along and we have fun. I still talk to my old friends sometimes. Tl;dr I think it's normal to want to fit in, all the pressure otherwise is hard.
