Is it normal to want to paint my nails so badly?

I was born male and ever since early childhood, I have wanted to wear nail paint out in public. However, everyone around me is mildly to extremely homophobic, and they may think I am gay, when in reality I am not. They are also somewhat firm believers in gender roles, so seeing me like that won’t fly. Nobody knows I have this desire so far. What do I do? Do I let caution to the wind and wear it anyway? Or do I wait until I am in better living conditions?

    I think that if you don’t think someone may physically harm you, you should rock it. Breaking stereotypes is rad.

    Update: it’s happening! I was out with my girlfriend on saturday, I mentioned it to her, and now us and two friends are all going to get our nails done together in july. I’m so unbelieveably happy, and I have you guys to thank for the courage. Thank you!

    You can always use clear and paint them. You will get the experience and only you will know.
