Is it normal to want to release animals and birds from cages ?

I have the urge to go to the zoo and release all the non agressive animals from the cages , birds in cages (like parrots ) or regular birds found in homes are included and release the fish from the aquariams and bring them back to the sea .is it normal to want to do that ?

Before you do something like that, realize that many of those animals have never been in the wild before - they're dependent on human care.

    Many of them could die.

Not to mention, you could end up in jail.

I've always felt like this but don't many people who do this thinking they are doing the animals a favour end up endangering or costing them their lives. A zoo is a controlled environment where the animal's welfare is considered daily by experienced professionals.

The best advice I could give you is to do a lot of study and then see if you can get involved with either an organised conservation programme or a project to release previously captive animals. Be aware that this is a LOT of work and requires dedication, patience, and almost giving your life over to it.

Zoos often end up putting some of these animals back in the wild after a certain amount of time.

You'll be giving them a death sentence if you do that, animals who are raised in captivity can't survive in the wild. They are dependent on us. :c

Please do not do this. You also realize in the wild, they have predators to deal with,no vet care, etc.

I own two birds and I give them alot of attention and care, their wings are not clipped. If I take them outside they actually get nervous (there are hawks in my area). For you to think its a good idea to take pets away from somewhere were they are cared for and loved greatly, is upsetting.

As for zoo animals, some species only exist still due to zoos...

Some pet owners and zoos can be bad,but not all are-remember that. Many aren't. Setting them free will only shorten their life, for many-drastically.

The only answer for captive animals who are living in bad living situations is for them to be taken to animal sanctuaries and rescues. v_v

It's normal to want to, but in most cases it isn't in the animal's best interests.

For example, animals bred in captivity would not be able to survive in the wild, especially if they were out of their natural habitat. However, the animals will then breed in captivity, and their young will also be in captivity, and so on indefinitly. Captivity is not the best situation for an animal, but it is impossible to break the cycle of captivity without taking baby animals away from their parents, which could also be considered as cruel, and would be very expensive and time-consuming to try and persuade a wild mother to adopt, or for workers to raise baby animals in the wild as if they were the mother. It's a very interesting debate to have.
