Is it normal to watch extremely sadistic films and not flinch one bit?

I am a film fanatic, and lately I'm really into the Extremist film genre. I've watched some of the most goriest, violent, sex filled films with crazy morals and explicit scenes, but none of them make me flinch. Does this mean I am mentally deranged?

I haven't seen it but I have heard a film called 'a Serbian film' is about as bad as it gets. Maybe you should watch that and see if it effects you.

Just a movie. Not reacting doesn't mean anything other than it wasn't able to make you forget that it's just a movie.

You're probably emotionally detached enough from the characters and their universe that what you are seeing has no more impact than seeing someone stabbing a tin of paint. I can't think of any violent scene in any film that's genuinely made me feel ill so I guess I'm similarly desensitised.

I have watched videos of real people being murdered, and that definitely disturbed me! The fact that it is real footage makes all the difference. Some of what I've seen has given me a sickening sense of anxiety, but also real anger.

So I'd say not flinching at whatever 'gorno' you're watching doesn't mean much, but if you can watch videos of real people having their throats cut, being stabbed in the face or beaten to death without feeling even a little unnerved, it might suggest you're empathically retarded and perhaps too disconnected from the rest of humanity.
