Is it normal to watch shows like laguna beach and the hills because...

I have a seemingly trivial question.

I am a 22 year old male, but I really enjoy watching shows such as The Hills and Laguna Beach, even though I am not even close to their target group!

I enjoy watching the shows because I absolutely love the lifestyle that is portrayed. The rich kids, nice cars, living in California... just the whole vibe and feel makes me want to be there, part of that scene. Even though it actually even makes me feel jealous and disappointed by my own life. ( I live in Holland, a small and wet country in Europe, far removed from any glamorous lifestyle)

Friends of mine and my girlfriend think it's ridiculous, but I really wish I was one of them.

Believe or not, there are people out there who would prefer to have your quiet and reserved life as opposed to the "glamorous" ones portrayed on television.

Don't ever let anyone crush your dreams, crush their ugly face instead!

Who knows, maybe someday you'll be the one up in California, in a cool ass car, with a hottie!

Thank you for all the comments. I feel that such expectations are influencing my expectations for what I will be able to achieve quite a bit.

I can consider myself to originate from an upper-middle class family, I do not have to be worried about finance or my future.

I just feel like whatever I do, I will never achieve the lifestyle portrayed in such shows, while I really feel this would make me happy. I know it seems incredibly shallow and fake, but it also seems so care-free and full of opportunity that I cannot help longing for such an environment.

I hate it when shows like that get aired overseas because they don't portray an accurate depiction of American life. It's very hard to become wealthy with the recession. You either have to be born into a rich family or marry into one. Especially if you want the wealthy lifestyle in California - the cost of living there is ridiculous. Most likely you will live in a middle or even lower class home in a less famous/glamorous state like Oregon or Idaho (where I live) and have to work a regular job (like at a grocery or clothing store) in order to support yourself. Remember, the people portrayed in those shows represent the top 5% or less than the majority of Americans.
