Is it normal to wonder what the world would be like if Hitler just settled for a job in customer service?

As already mentioned, Hitler wasn't the sole cause of WWII.

Germany wasn't in a good spot after the first war. Germans weren't particularly happy about the Treaty of Versailles. In the eyes of the German citizens, The Allies were punishing thousands of innocent people for the wrongdoings of their leaders and military.

This resulted in resentment for the Allies and a cause that nearly everyone in Germany could rally behind. And while it's a tough pill to swallow, many of the Nazis were people fighting for the freedom of their country. (While the others were very much monsters. This doesn't make Nazi Germany morally correct.)

Luckily the Allies learned from their past mistakes and helped rebuild Japan and Germany after WWII. Instead of simply punishing them and leaving them to suffer, we punished them but were kind enough to be there for the rebuilding.

Purplehoneycomb, are you trying to justify genocide and megolamania because a country was impoverished?

What? No. I even mentioned that I don't condone Nazi Germany in my comment. I was simply stating that Hitler wasn't even the reason why WW2 happened.

Hitler's conquering of nations and the appeasement turned aggression wasn't?

Unfortunately, a version of WW II would have still happened. Just with a different leader.

The fact is that just like WW I that WW II was set up by various political situations that made the "status quo" untenable.

In both cases it was only who would be in charge of each side and what was going to be the trigger event.

All the fuel had been laid and oil poured on it already; just waiting for the match...

I just want to thank you for putting the image of Adolf Hitler sitting at a desk in a cubicle, wearing a headset and taking phone calls from angry customers! The Führer would probably want to go out to lunch with my friends, and I. We would smoke a blunt with him, and he would try to turn us on to vegetarianism. I would probably get annoyed sometimes, and end up saying things like, "listen, Adolf, I know how you feel about animals, and I'm an animal lover too, but it's not like I routinely make you watch me eat a rare steak every day at lunch. For the love of God, we go out to Taco Bell everyday, and I mostly eat bean burritos!"

In the end Hitler would probably end up being frustrated with people in general, just like most people in customer service. We'd hang out, smoke blunts, and encourage him to paint more. I probably also invite Hitler to come to the bereavement group at my church so he could talk about his issues with the loss of his mother. This old priest I used to know would probably recommend a good therapist, then Hitler would finally get diagnosed with BPD, and start CBT, and or DBT.

... and Israel probably wouldn't exist.

WW2 would have probably happened anyway. Things would have been different though
