Is it normal to write letters/words in the air with your finger?

When I get bored, I sometimes find myself writing random words and/or letters in the air with my index finger... I've never seen anybody else do this; I sometimes feel embarrassed when catching myself doing this in public.. Is it normal?

    Yeah I do this all the time in science class, and i pretend im drawing or typing or driving:)

    I sometimes do it when spelling something out (Even on the phone!! 8/) or when thinking of a long and complex word.

    i do this too. it's one of my ocd habits. i also pretend i'm typing sometimes. weeeird shit man.

    I do this ALL THE TIME! I developed this habit a few months ago, not only do i do it in the air but on my laptop screen, on tables and sometimes walls.
