Is it normal what is so appealing about dating a teacher?

For some reason people find this idea very appealing. I would like to know why. I mean when I was a kid I kind of saw my teachers like my parents. Older adults who had to take care of us and teach us. I also trusted them when they asked me about my problems. So the thought of dating one is just wrong to me. However we have a lot of students who would have an affair with one when they are minor to adult. Even when they are a minor and the teacher has 20+ years on their own parents. Some do it in university but usually the teachers are closer to the age of some of the students. So not as bizarre. Can someone explain why teachers are such a turn on? That is like dating your grandfather.

From Socrates to Mrs. Robinson and Tame Impala's video for Mind Mischief, the thing behind this teacher fantasy is that he or she who teaches you about science, math, philosophy or handicraft will teach you about sex too. The appeal of an older, sensual, more experienced person. Pretty standard fantasy, with the opposite naturally occurring, like in The Police's Don't stand so close to me, Nabokov's Lolita etc.

    • Dating an older person I understand. Dating someone as old as your mother though. That is like saying "I want to have sex with my mom". Which I know that is a thing but when presented in these cases they deny any sort of connection. So wouldn't that indicate some kind of lust for mom and dad? I never thought about the "Teach you about sex" thing as you said. In my mind I would have never connected that though. I also find it really strange that any would connect it like that.

It's much more this thing of learning about sex than that thing of "having sex with your mom". It's more plausible. I'm an empiricist, and according to my experience and imagination, this mom/dad fixation thing is cheap psychology. Remember that Freud is a reductionist charlatan according to many intelligent people, and in any case psychoanalysis is not science, is not medicine, it is purely a materialistic speculation which I find grossly inappropriate to describe the richness of human feelings.
I've never felt any erotical desire for my mom, dad, or any member of my family. I know sometimes that can be the case, but it's not necessarily so.

I would guess it's a power thing. For most teens their teacher would be the biggest authority figure in their life.
