Is it only me or is the youth becoming a bunch of ungrateful morons

I am not sure if it is only me or if this is a really big problem in today`s society?

When I was a teenager we were taught to be grateful for what our families could afford.Children were heard and not seen in grownup conversation. No, meant no and you did not dare question this or your backside would burn.

My grandchildren all seem to think that money grows on trees and if they want a Sony play station 3 or whatever the latest model is, Gramps or Granny MUST buy it for them.

The same applies to cell phones, they want the latest model android phone a normal cell phone is just not on! The oldest grandchild has just turned twelve.

Is this acceptable to you guys and girls out there?

I have the same thoughts on today`s youth 28
i am not effected by the way young people behave 2
I say live and let live 6
I think that everybody has the right to be the way they are 6
I have no opinion on this matter 2
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I don't understand, which generation were you a part of?

The generation that rioted against war vets in the streets, turning a generation of Vietnam veterans into homeless alcoholics by creating a hostile environment that they had to come home to? Or the generation that hosed down black people in the streets for using the wrong restroom?

Is it me, or do older generations only seem to remember the glory days?

I my friend have absolutely nothing to do with America`s social problems. I grew up in the 60`s in South Africa, we did not hose blacks, we shot them with rubber bullets! get your facts straight. I also do not refer to them as Glory days, rather as days where people still had common decency as one of their character traits...

You know, not ALL youngsters are spoiled brats like your grandkids seem to be. I'm 19 and I was brought up to always be greatful, always have manners, and never interrupt when an adult was speaking.

I wasn't exactly seen and not heard, but I knew my place as a kid and I expect other children to know their place, too. I too find myself becomming increasingly annoyed at most people these days aged 10 - 20 but there are exceptions that are not ungreatful, spoiled morons.

I concur, there are exceptions, I am just stating that they are far and few between.

Why on Earth would anyone be grateful for being told they should be "seen and not heard", and being hit when they stand up for themselves?

Our choice is not between rabid consumerism and disenfranchising young people. That is a choice between two awful things. There are other possibilities.

Because living in a "Democracy" is getting countries like America exactly where they do not want to be...having liberals telling what to do with your country and your lives.

Before you wipe the shit from your eyes, your country is going to be the biggest Muslim state in the whole world and that without even having to fire a single bullet to get it.

rabid consumerism and disenfranchising young people will do that for a country...wake up and smell the roses, who do you think put Obama into power in your country?

This complaint is recycled for every generation.

I'm currently 20 years of age and hope to be lucky enough to have the wherewithal to purchase the latest gadgets and gizmos for my grandkids to see the excitement on their faces. Hopefully my kids (the ones I plan to have) will have done their jobs as parents and taught their kids to say "thank you."

And I say good luck to you and your generation on that! I certainly taught my children to say thank you, but that is not a guarantee that their siblings are going to have manners!

Every generation says this about generations that come after it. People are products of their environments and time period and none moreso than kids. They absorb so much.

You're just getting old. I recall recently I was walking by in the park and saw two girls, about 17 years old, smoking weed out of a bong and I thought "Damn this generation! Smoking pot instead of doing anything useful!"

And then I thought back at what I was doing when I was 17, and I was in the park, smoking weed out of a bong.

I was also a dick to older people, just like most of my friends, and just like the current generation.

I tell you, it's just us getting old.

My friend I concur, I also smoked a bong and many more such like implements...Then life and all its responsibilities came along, its not that I don`t occasionally still partake in a bit of weed, its just that life gets you eventually...I still appreciate the small things in life.

If your grandchildren are this way I suppose you should look at your own children's parenting skills.

Often times, especially these days, parents would rather take the easy way out, that is giving the brat whatever they want, instead of giving a stern "no" and having their kid act hateful toward them.

Raise kids right and they will behave well and respectfully.

It does seem like there's many obnoxious and rude kids these days, but there's also many good ones out there.

I do not disagree with your statement, I am just saying that I have observed MANY youngsters out there who have absolutely NO manners or respect for their elders!

There are a good lot of youngsters out there who do have impeccable manners and to them and their parents I say Bravo on a job well done!

It is normally these parents who are willing to sacrifice so that their siblings can have what they did not as children or even adolescents.

You're right. We don't need another rebellious, obnoxious "fuck the system" type of youth. All these pretentious spoiled brats have in common is that they didn't get smacked upside the deck by their father when they were disobedient. There is no structure in their life due to the lack of an authority figure so they grow up with the mindset that they should only have rights and privileges without taking responsibility. But what do you expect from a generation of kids raised by single mothers?
Cause "strong independent womyn" want to work instead of raising their kids.

The only thing they're independent of is their children.

Now you get the point totally. There is absolutely nothing wrong with smacking a naughty child upside its arse when he or she has a little temper tantrum.

I dont really agree with either of those lifestyles. It wont be just black and white with me. I dont want my kids to be like either of those. The first just doesnt feel like theres enougb love. I want my kids to know that they are important and their opinions do matter and just because theyre younger doesnt mean they dont have good ideas, or that they cant speak in an adult setting. Ive had older people treat me like that. So disrespectful of them, to be so condesending. Ass. Holes. So, the first option would make me feel sorry for my kids. The second, i hate to say, but id be pretty disappointed. Thats not how i want to raise my kids either. I just want to raise them in a way so that they will be sensible, respectful, apathetic, independent enough to know they dont need to rely on other for anything really, know that they are important and worthy and beautiful no matter what. I dont care how they choose to dress or style their hair or anything. As long as their trying to be pretty good people overall, ill be happy.

You go...its nice to have all those aspirations for Children and the best of luck with achieving them in todays society...remember no matter how hard you try, they will always be exposed to members of public that you would prefer them not to be in touch with and that is where the trouble begins!
