They’re friendlier at first but when they get to know you if you’re not their type they clam up and shut you down. I experienced it first hand.
It's more of a rural vs urban thing. As well as a "Do you fit in?" thing.
Only time Ive gone north is for a funeral in Chicago and what stuck out was when we were driving to the cemetery with our flashers on in a single file line ppl were cutting into our line which is considered very disrespectful in the south. You could get pulled over for it.
You're supposed to always let a funeral go first and never cut into the line. I was a kid but I said something to my cousin whos from chicago and was riding with me and he chuckled and said ppl were way too busy in chicago to care about a funeral.
