Is it understandable to miss so many mental therapy appointnentd

I feel really bad about this but I've missed like every other session without being able to call ahead due to oversleeping. I know I shouldn't use excuses but do u think the therapist is mad or do they understand? I feel terrible but they always want me to come in the morning and I set my alarms, get enough sleep etc. but I still can't wake up on time. Iam usually 5-10 minutes late to everything even job interviews and one time 30 minutes late to the 2nd day of a job due to this

  • I understand is and most people will not get this problem. It is probablly common in the psych community and If they are not willing to schedule you later, you may want to find another place. I have been dismissed from clinics before for this and it really is a problem for me. I often sleep 16 hours or more a night and not much wakes me up. Even multiple alarms or people yelling at me, and when I do wake up I often have to be constantly stimulated for the first hours or so, or else I doze off again. I do recommend a sleep study. I have been found to have severe sleep problems. Its not that I am lazy or dont care. I have missed things that were very important to me and caused me great inconvience to miss. Sometimes i literally cannot wake up and stay awake.

Try to get a later appointment and if they say "well we'd rather do it in the morning" tell them either

1.) lie and say your busy
2.) Every time i make an appointment in the morning ive been late
3.) I'm the one paying you so let me come in the afternoon :P

Idk what you're going to therapy for but if you're missing appointments its obviously a sign that there's something wrong and you need to get that fixed and how else are you going to fix it with out going to therapy? lol . Try using that as an incentive too.

You also may just be one of those people who can't live up to your commitments. Most adults figure out some way to do it; it's as easy as setting your clocks ahead some amount of time.
I would be charging you for missed appointments, as I couldn't fill the time if I'd scheduled you, yet you were too rude to cancel in any reasonable time before hand. But I've always felt if something was important to someone, they'd manage to get it done, somehow. So I'm guessing your job interviews and Dr's appointments aren't very important to you. Good thing you don't need money to have a place to sleep or food to eat, right?
Time to grow up and meet your commitments like an adult.

    • Thats not how sleep disorders work. OP may have a sleep disorder.

Then one shouldn't schedule an appointment for mornings, right?
Adults find ways to live with disorders not inconvenience everybody else.

Mentally ill ones don't necessarily. If they could cope with responsibilities they probably wouldn't be needing therapy.

If one can't go through life without inconveniencing everybody else, then perhaps those people should be committed to an institution where they can be cared for. This dick head has already admitted he doesn't bother with his scheduled therapy appointments, so why defend him?
The rest of us have a hard enough time dealing with life as it is, without people making appointments they know they won't keep or scheduling things they have no honest intention in going through with.
Too many people have no consideration for others in this world.

In my country they closed down all those institutions, so a lot of fairly helpless people are out there having to make decisions they're not capable of making and face responsibilities they're not capable of facing. It would be a good idea for this therapist to schedule an afternoon visit rather than waste his own time again.

What time to you go to bed? I go to bed early, around or near 10 o'clock (7 or 8PM , usually). I wake up early in the morning usually around 3, 4, or 5 AM. This gives me plenty of time to get up and get ready if I have somewhere to go.
