Is it weird that i'm claiming an ethnicity that is too far back?

My great-great-great grandmother was Ashkenazi Jewish, but I fell in love with the Jewish religion and I'm going to convert. I know ethnicity isn't really important, but I like saying I'm 1/4 (25%) Jewish

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Too far to go. Although, if it follows so your great-great-grandmother was her daugher, then your great grandmother was from her side, and then your grandmother was from her side too you would be technically Jewish as far as the Jews are concerned. (You're considered Jewish if your mother was Jewish.)

I believe you are 1/32nd Jewish, but you have Jewish ancestry through your maternal family which is technically what counts I guess. I attempted to do the math, and have reason to believe that you are 3.125% Hebrew.

Congratulations you are normal, and just trying to get in touch with your roots like so many of the rest of us.

I think OP wants to strengthen the victim card in his hand.

I don't know about all of that. As long as he's happy with his new chosen spirituality, and religion I support him. I personally would never leave my faith.

  • I’m doing the same thing just because I think Ashkenazi sounds cool!
