Is it weird to ask people via web if they want to have a photoshoot by me?

So, I am 20yr old male student, I really like to photograph in my freetime. The pictures are pretty decent I would say. Well I only have 150 follower though. I did only Nature and Architecture in the past. Now I am interested in Portrait/Fashion Photography. I had 2 small shootings with friends of mine already, the results were great as the models described it. Now I am asking people in my surroundings which I know from high school for example if they would have interest in a photoshoot. Offering free edit or even to take over some costs like gasoline. Also I offer that they can appear with another person if they would like to. The reason is, I need an portfolio to take my photography to the next level.

Long story short. Is it weird to ask people via Instagram / Social Media if they are interested in taking part in an "Amateur" Portrait/Fashion Photoshoot?

    I think as long you show that you're a legitimate photographer and not a sketchy guy with a camera, there shouldn't be any harm in asking.
