Is it normal to get pregnant at 39?
due to rising costs of living, greater amounts of debt, greater difficulty in purchasing homes, less job security, etc., it is likely to become more normal for women to have children at later ages than traditionally assumed in the future
I’m not a fan. But I also started at 18. So it would be too much of an age gap for my kids.
I’m not going to go into biology on here Bc none of the users are cool with the facts.
But it is very common in this day in age.
Society in general isn't cool with the facts anymore.
I had my youngest quite late on and it was tough. I'm lucky I got pregnant easily but we were always waiting for me to miscarry. At the birth we were terrified he was going to have some sort of chromosomal abnormality. Everything turned out fine but it was definitely a very different experience to being pregnant in my 20s.
We're all supposed to pretend that women can have babies no bother until they hit 50 because that's feminism or whatever. It's misleading, to say the least.
Hit the nail on the head, dude. Chances of getting pregnant naturally at 40 are 50/50. Chances as 45 are 5%. But we'll pretend othwerwise to spare people's feelings right? So what if they end up crying themselves to sleep over the kids they were told they could have in their mid 40s that never arrived.
No. I have a friend a little younger than you with her first child about to be born any day now.
You have 2 different questions, I voted NO on the title, which means it's normal.
Yes, it's normal and becoming more and more common. It's a bit more risky to get pregnant at this age, but many women give birth children in their late 30s or early 40s. Nothing wrong with it!
I'll say normal. These days it seems like the thirties is when people finally become financially stable.
It's fairly common these days. Some women are still able to get pregnant very easily at this age, although they are in the minority. A lot of women late 30s and 40s will need medical intervention in order to conceive, and even then some of them won't be able to by this point.
I am a petri-baby from 1995. My mother was 39 when I was born. My dad had his tubes tied before they got married, and untied after marriage.
Story goes that they took 4 eggs to germinate, 2 took, and i killed off my sibling in the womb.
Not reading the comments because if I ever get pregnant I might be 39 or older...
If you are, or your partner is, congratulations!
My mom is constantly complaining over this, the fact that women are having babies at such an old age nowadays. She thinks it's wrong. She herself got me when she was 22.
If it's your first time being pregnant then yeah it will feel weird, but don't stress much about it you'll be alright.
It's not uncommon for older women to be pregnant these day, but it is considered a high risk pregnancy.
This is one of those questions where the meaning of "normal" is unclear.
Most women have babies at a much younger age, but in a lot of countries, the average age a woman is when she gives birth has been slowly rising for some time. Partly that's because very young women have better access to birth control (in civilised countries), and partly it's because women delay having kids because of financial insecurity and many other reasons.
Having a child when a woman is in her late thirties or even forties increases the chances of birth defects and medical complications during pregnancy and childbirth. A sensible woman would consider these factors very carefully before deciding to get pregnant.
BTW, I didn't vote because this is also one of those questions where the title is exactly the opposite of the question asked in the text.
