Don't get your views from religious nuts. Masturbation is great because it allows you to discover what kinds of things turn you on before you try them with a partner. You won't be a very good partner to anyone in the future if you don't have some kind of self-knowledge about what gets you going.

A lot of men get addicted to porn and after a certain point have to find more extreme and sometimes depraved stuff to be able to satisfy themselves the same way, diving into more extreme fetishes to get the same release.

Some people consider it evil and some don't. It depends on what they're taught.
Most people that told me its evil just weren't happy with their lives in general and seemed to want to force their ways on others. They had a "if I can't do it, you can't either attitude". They had zero luck in convincing me. XD

The way I always had it explained to me was that it's not evil, but the reason we should avoid it is because sex with another person allows us to create life, and the ability to create life is something we share in common with God. So sex and masturbation aren't necessarily bad things, they're things that should be reserved for when you and a partner are ready to start a family
Obviously there are other ways to make a family, like adoption and artificial insemination, so it's not a catch-all "this applies to every single person" type of thing
