Is myanmar the least thought about large country?

If you live outside of South Asia, how often do you REALLY think of what used to be Burma? What do you really know?

My question is, why does a country with s population above 55 million have very little recognition? And how often does Myanmar cross your minds?

To be honest I only learned about Burma/ Myanmar after I watched a Top Gear episode about it.

I'm from Europe and we never really learned much about Asian countries. Just a bit about China, Japan in WWII, Russia and the US-Vietnam war. It's kinda sad...

Myanmar is an easily forgotten country for several reasons. It's never in the news, doesn't have much of a tourist industry, not many immigrants come from there, etc. Its just all around unremarkable.
