with everything that's going on with the world right now, namely climate change among other major environmental issues, is our world set on a course towards its own destruction? Is there really any hope for us?

Well technically existence is finite and so we are doomed but the question we should be asking is how soon? If climate change is your biggest concern, than I think were fine for quite a while.
They have been talking about climate change since God knows when.
I remember when nuclear war and/or the rapture was suppose to end the world. I remember being a kid in the 80's and thinking the world would not even make it to 2000. Yet here we are, weeks away from 2020.
The world may eventually end but it won't be in our lifetime.
Yes and we are to blame for it. I mostly feel sorry for the poor animals and the earth itself. Couldn't care less about the humans, they're not why I would like to see a change in how we treat the earth.
scientists and environmentalists always come up with the worst-case scenario, why not be optimistic for once.
Wheres the we aren't fucked option and people are just being babies? When it comes to survival humans will always come out on top. Because I know humanity can live without certain things. Whales, Elephants, giraffes, lions, gorillas. Humans dont need these animals to survive. All of our grown staple foods are wind pollinated so we might not need that many bees. If it gets bad we can always splice what we need out of something.
