Is this a normal amount to pay?

Hey guys, well we have verizon cable tv and internet (bundle) and each month our bill is $210. Everyone I tell that to looks at me like I'm crazy. I think our bank account is starting to do the same..

I'm not very good with this stuff..is this an unreasonable amount of money? Should we be paying a lot less? How can we decrease the size of our bill?

Thanks in advance!

Actually, with a good TV coverage and internet, I have been paying approximately the same amount. I recently tried Comcast for the TV and I had trouble seeing the lips move on the TV personalities.
But because I briefly cancelled my TV with DirectV, they welcomed me back with a 40 percent reduction for a year. I still have Internet and Phone with Comcast. I really can't get rid of Comcast because our kids use a couple of the email addresses, even though they have their own service.
I would say, if you like what you have, call Verizon and see if they have any specials. Tell them that you are thinking of changing. I think you will get a deal for the year. Good Luck!

    • Very helpful! We planned on doing that! It seems like if you threaten them and tell them you've found a better offer (whether you have or not) they value their customers enough to work something out with you. Thank you for responding!

Depends what channel package you have. Also what type internet. Just for TV alone it costs 186. But that is for 9 TVs with premium channels. Internet is seperate.

    • That's the thing. We only have five tv's and one of them we don't even use so I'm thinking of getting rid of that to bring the cost down. But other than that, I really don't know where else to start

I have directv and it is cheaper. I am happy with it but depending where you live it can be a bitch.

Admittedly I don't get cable TV, just internet, but my bill is 1/4 that and I still don't consider it a great deal.

    • Hmm..what company are you with? (If you don't mind me asking)

It's a smaller company, Charter. Unfortunately they only seem to serve smallish pockets kind of randomly scattered around the country.

Jesus that is expensive - Have you tried checking out other service providers and seeing what they offer?

    • We used to have directv but we didn't like it very much. I honestly don't even remember how much we paid..I think it was significantly cheaper but didn't offer much. Maybe we should shop around, but I just don't know where to start! A lot of companies don't offer the triple bundle so I feel like that's what's making it more expensive.

I find bundles do save you abit of money - I save between $20-$30 a month AND if I have my cell services with the same company, I get an extra $10 dollars off the bundle price.

However I'm finding myself not watching tv and using the landline phone as much now as before. I now opted to just have internet and a cell phone. The internet can basically replace your tv services and also save you a crapload on phone calls when you use your WIFI to call overseas using an app on your smart phone.

        • Hmm.. I would like to keep our televisions though..tv has always been a comfort thing to me since I was young, like a stress reliever. I couldn't imagine not being able to just switch it on. I think the landline should go but my husband suggests we keep it. Ugh, so confusing.

There is internet television services out there - most modern televisions now are wifi capable with built-in applications to enable you to view television programmes. There are television boxes that you connect to your internet too.

            • Yeah but my mother and my husbands mother come to stay with us occasionally and my husband is constantly thinking of their comfort. They wouldn't know how to work all of that lol :/

High, yes. However, you should be glad that it is nowhere near what my phone bill was when I got back from Europe.

Combined monthly for TV Cable on Demand Movies/6GB Internet monthly / Unlimited Telephone w/unlimited Data on phone = $115.00.

My recommendation is to shop around and check out Virgin Mobile internet service / telephone. They have better rates then my local Comcast bundle packages.

    Cheers and happy shopping

    • The thing is, I only get certain companies in my area as well so idk if I can get virgin mobile where I live. Thank you for the suggestion!

We pay around $60 for 25-28mbps, not sure on the TV side, but its under $150.

That amount is outrageous! I would call provider and tell them you are going to cancel your bundle package if they can not find a better lower price. If they have no lower price, cancel. When you don't have it, it will force you to purchase only what you absolutely need. You may find all you need is the TV basic package for $35.00 - $45.00, then purchase a separate Internet plan for est $55.00 monthly for 6GB data.

Do you agree this is better than $210.00 monthly?

    • Hmm..my husband is saying that the bundle is what makes it cheaper because they provide a discount for having a bundle pack. I thought it was a good idea though :/

Yes - I understand. My point is the "bundle" may be what drives the price higher because there is no competition in your area for "bundle" packages from local providers.

I would compare prices in your area for the same service/bundle. If you can get it cheaper; purchasing services separately from different providers, may be a cost saver.

Hope this is helpful. It may be just me but it makes no sense to pay so much for TV/internet that matches the same amount some pay for a monthly car payment or partial monthly mortgage payment. Especially when most TV programming is now available via internet connections. $210 seems high considering you could go to the Opera for a Sat Broadcast of a Met $24, or catch a movie. Amazon rentals.....need I go on? All this is mute point if you MUST have TV Premium Channels then, yes ..... pay $210 monthly.
