Let's say there is an attractive guy/girl on a dating app that matches you. Their second response to you is them saying that they want your cellphone number as they "don't get notifications" on the app. What do you do?

For your own protection and security you should have set up both an anonymous phone number and email address (google will allow you to do both: there are other providers as well). All contacts use that phone number and email until after you have met them more than once and they check out as a decent person.
I even have a separate $29 Tracfone that I use for contacts off of certain sites (with its own texting, Skype, and WhatsApp accounts). I refill always with purchased cards (cards purchased with cash), and Tracfone has no idea who I am. I have blocked this phone from ever connecting to my home wifi as well (so it will not be in the phones database).
I use my middle name for those sites and contacts. No one finds out who I really am until after we meet a few times and they check out. I've been scammed and even several attempts at blackmailing me too many times by false contacts from various sites.
Where applicable: My profile does indicate that scammers and fake profiles do exist and for security purposes fake names, anonymous phone numbers, etc, are acceptable until we meet (in a public place) and are comfortable with each other.
I would say I’d rather talk to them longer on the app until I give them my number
if she / you like i don't see why not give her number. it's so much easier to communicate by sms rather than by applications.
It depends if they're a weirdo or not and how long you've talked to them for. Str8racers idea is a pretty good way to handle it too.
First of I wouldn't give my phone number because thats way moving too fast. I'll only do it once I've known the person better and that I've adjusted to them. Its a little bit like how I wouldn't give my social media account name because that too would be moving too fast without actually knowing the person well enough. It isn't a tough choice you need to think logically and realistically and think " Should I really be giving it? Or no? ".
Unless the other person or myself starts a conversation and then give my phone number and other personal stuff like social media to that person.
