Is this discrimination

I am a 40 year old male and live in the UK. For the past 10 years I have regularly worn dresses, skirts, tights, makeup, high heels and various other items which might more traditionally be worn by a female. I am not transgender, I don’t identify as a woman, I am not gay and I am living very happily in a relationship with a woman. I wear the clothes I wear because I find them comfortable and do not believe clothing has a gender. I rarely wear trousers or even jeans although I do occasionally. As it happens my partner rarely wears a dress or skirt or any makeup, but that is her choice. At first I met some resistance from my employer about wearing skirts to the office but after some initial support from my union representative and colleagues (mostly female) I was left alone to dress however I wished provided it looked professional. However, I have recently got a new line manager and have been told some of my skirts are too short, about mid thigh. There are however women in the office that wear the same length skirts and no one has mentioned anything to them. Is this discrimination?

I should be allowed to wear skirts as short as anyone else 12
I should not be allowed to wear skirts as I am male 11
I am being discriminated against 2

It's should be up the boss, and the boss had made himself clear. You live in the UK so you probably could sue for discrimination because frankly our country is batshit crazy with this stuff atm, but it would be unfair to do so.

same rules for everyone, no matter of the sex, or person, to tell one person theirs is too short and let the others wear one as short or shorter is decimation, and I would also say sexual harassment

If you are sure that other people are wearing shorter skirts and that is being allowed, then yes, you potentially have a case for discrimination.

However, from your description it sounds like this is a large company so I'm guessing they have a decent HR department. So they will know much better than you when it comes to discrimination laws and how to avoid being sued. This is what HR do - they are not there for your benefit, they are there for the company's benefit. So the chances are, if you point out that female colleagues are being allowed to wear shorter skirts, they will simply change the rules and start enforcing this longer skirt length for all colleagues. This is the easiest road for them to take and keeps them out of hot water whilst not having to give in to what you are asking for.

What I'm saying is, rightly or wrongly, you probably won't ever be allowed to wear your short skirts to work. Sorry dude.

I didn't vote, you need another option. Lol

But not to disregard your personal question.. this just goes into my *honest* questioning about people who prefer different pronouns than what I would assume!

To yhu personally (original post) what pronouns do yhu prefer.. sorry if my questioning is offensive! You have announced you don't dress traditionally, so I don't want to say the wrong thing..

Kinda catch my drift? For the individuals who have a non traditional preference, in person... how am I suppose to know ones pronoun preference without assuming, but also not being disrespectful if I ask??

I say it is discrimination, but fighting it might be a hassle, at least it is in the US. I don't know the laws in the UK when I say this.

I call bullshit. Womens clothing could not be more comfortable than male clothing. Especially the high heels.

Maybe he means that he feels more comfortable in the sense that he feels attractive, or like it suits his personality, rather than actually being physically comfortable. In all honesty, the only clothes I find truly physically comfortable are my pyjamas, but I would not feel comfortable wearing those to work. I prefer to portray a certain image to the world when I step out of my house.

It’s really not. I hate wearing dresses to work. And I would much rather wear sneakers than dress shoes.

    • I wear heels because I like the look and I’m also used to wearing them. Anyway my footwear is not in question, just the length of my skirts. And actually yes the clothes are far more comfortable, especially in hot weather. Who the hell wants to wear long trousers and a tie when its a hot day?
