Is translation studies a good field to pursue?

As far as finding a job after graduating. I was also interested in writing which I could do on the side.

I don't know how marketable it is, but I think it's very interesting. I guess it would depend on the language itself. I have a friend who does a little translating for extra cash but he mainly wants to get into publishing. He also does writng and editing on the side.

Try to keep your skills broad so you have a variety of choices after graduation. This way you can still work in a similar field if the exact one isn't available.

    Good Luck!

I think it's a useful vocational skill, especially if you want to/are willing to travel around the world to use it. In the increasingly integrated world we live in, translation is a skill that will grow in demand and not many people will have.

But I don't really know anything specific about translation studies. I don't know where in the world you live, but most schools here either have a career's advisor or will be able to tell you where you can find one, and you'd be best off talking to one of them.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be surprised if google translator and other programs like that get much better with time and take over all of these jobs. So I'm going with no.

I know my cousin got the in for the job he has now because of his skills with languages, I think he speaks 3 or 4. O.o

I'm not entirely sure how marketable it is, but if you're in America we are becoming more multicultural here. It's certainly becoming more useful, and on a global scale most definitely.

Maybe you should ask around find people who actually do this for a living.
