It is normal that my roommate sits in living room in the dark all night?

Me and my female best friend share a room in a three bedroom apartment. A new roommate (a guy) moved in a couple months ago. In the time he has lived here, he hasn't spoken to us at all, save 1-2 conversations asking if I was single, or asking my friend to drink with him in his room at 11:30am. But a few times now me or my friend have gone into the kitchen/common area of our apartment late at night around 1-4 am (to use the restroom, get a drink of water, whatever). And a few times now, we turn on the light to see him just sitting there, in the dark without a phone and fully dressed.

I say this because it is bad for your eyes.

  • Why is that wrong? It sounds like he's just introverted. I mean maybe he's a psycho killer, but I would sit in the living in silence and darkness just to be out of my room if I was introverted and had roommates

I could literally spend hours without moving, just thinking or meditating. Maybe I'm taking it personally, but I don't think you should vilify this behavior

Unless there's more to the story?

I don't understand why you seem to get downvoted consistently. From what I've seen your comments are usually very insightful and helpful.

      • Usually I think it's because people are angry that I'm right, or close to the truth, or I say something that takes a little self reflection or intelligence to understand

He could be drunk or resting... if he didn’t talk to you, might as well leave him alone.

If those are his only conversations and his behaviour then that’s actually creepy

Update: I was in my room studying when I heard the door open, but at first I thought it was the wind so I didn't look up for a few minutes. The door continued to open slowly so I looked up and saw half of my roommate's face staring at me. He continues to look for a minute until I saw what is going on? And then he slowly backs away :^)

Let him do what he feels like, maybe he just doesn't have an easy time sleeping. Maybe hes meditating. Maybe he did have his phone but hide it. I dont know. But either way it doesnt sound too odd and people should at least do what they feel like in their own home
