Judging by this drawing, how old is the author?

WARNING: I have revealed the author's age in the comments section, so I would avoid going down there before voting for the best results. Thanks. :)

http://i.imgur.com/saCP5.jpg - This is kind of an experiment. I wanted to see how old people think the author of this is having only the drawing as a reference.

10 to 13 25
14 to 16 46
17 to 19 33
20 to 22 29
23+ 50

I thought it was an adult copying a childs artwork.

Why do people think it looks like a child's drawing just because it's cartoonish and has kids in it? It looks to me like the work of some of the professional illustrators for children's books. Actually, you know what it reminds me of, is some of the illustrations from the stories in Highlights magazine when I was a kid. Either way, that was no five-year-old who did that. I guessed 20-22.

An adults work might be more sophisticated in style and in artwork. Little kids draw like little kids. Granted some may be gifted but often you can tell from the style a child drew it. It also looks like they used crayons.

Not the fact it is cartoonish. Not the fact that it has kids IN it. The style of how it is drawn. Little kids have a innocence to how they draw. Also art in children work looks like a old person has drawn it. That is the type of styles elderly like and kind of drawings they make. The artist looks to be 10.

*I* couldn't draw that, even now, and I've always liked to consider myself good at drawing (though my style is mostly pencil sketches). If you think about all the people out there who like manga and stuff, I think it's entirely feasible that an upper teenager or young adult would choose to draw short people. And the signature actually looks a lot like my own handwriting. I hold my original opinion.

To upload images you need to be an IIN Gold member. I liked having the link for this one though, it allowed me to have a good look at the details :)

It looks like it was drawn as an illustration for a kids' book, or something like that (it probably wasn't, because those aren't usually signed IIRC). I don't think you need a particularly childish mind to be able to do that, though.

Some details, like the slightly smudged-looking shading on the faces of the people, the grass, the sky and the tree canopy, make me think it's drawn by an adult mimicking the style of a kid.

I think the faces are too stylized and consistent to have been drawn by an actual child, unless s/he was a very good drawer.

Some of the clothes even have seams, which is way too much detail for most younger kids to think about.

The handwriting of the signature "MARINA" looks fairly mature.

The half of the table furthest away from us is well-drawn, but not perfect. The same with the candles on the cake; they're too far back. The mum's chin has been redrawn and you can clearly see the multiple lines. Not that it's meant to be exact, but those details make it look "just wrong" as opposed to "child-like and cartoon-y". All that shows is the artist isn't a perfectionist though, or that the piece isn't fully complete, not age.

Out of interest, is the author you, OP, or did is it just something you found?

I think the author is at least 16, but probably more like at least 18. I'll guess 20-22, but it could just as easily be 30, 40, 50 or older.

    yay! i was right ! i voted 14-16.

the lines and coloring are too clean for that of an average kid to draw.

despite the "simple and cartoony" look of the piece, its well done.

I put 14-16. You could analyse the picture all day and still not come up with a definite answer. How old is the person who drew this?

      You were right, it's 14.

My guess it 17-19. It looks too neatly made to be a child's drawing.

It looks like a children's book illustration. The style isn't very distinctive or unique, but it is nicely coloured and I like the detail.

In terms of the age, I'd guess it is by somebody aged between 14 and 17, but it could easily be by somebody older.

I voted younger because the signature looks more like a child's writing. Most older artists I know either don't sign their work or at least not in that manner.

Ooh, I like experiments. Hmm, it's hard. It could be anything over 20. My guess is 20+
