Last name or family name?
When telling someone your name, do you use the term last or family?

I use last name.
However I understand why "family name" may be more appropriate in certain situations... such as in cultures where the first name is the family name and the last name is the personal name.

Depends who I'm talking to. If I'm talking to someone whose family name comes first (as opposed to last, like mine), I use the term family name.
