His life may be shorter than yours, but having you in it made his life great.

my dog i had for 15 years died recently, he seemed pretty healthy but then one day started to struggle to breath we took him to the vet n they sed they cud either put him down, take him home n he will most likely die shortly or have an operation to put rings in his throat to open his trachea... we went with the operation cuz we just wanted to keep him around as long as possible but being such as old dog going through such a huge operation was a risk and unfortunatly he only lasted till the next day. In retrospect i wish we had been able to put him to sleep in my arms rather than have him suffer through a big operation only to die over night at the vets by himself =( basically wat im gettin at is that u want ur dogs passing to be as comfortable and pain free for them as possible...sorry to hear about your dog i still think about mine everyday :( he passed away about 6 months ago now

There's nothing wrong with not wanting to see your loved one free from pain.

It's not an easy decision to make, but there is nothing wrong with having him or her gently eased to eternal rest.

I just had to leave my dog with my parents while I do cave research (she usually comes with me for regular field studies) and knowing I won't see her for 2-3 weeks is killing me already.

I've already put it in my head that she's immortal and will never get sick.

So normal for you to be devastated. I'm so sorry.

If your dog is suffering then maybe you should consider putting them down. It's not fair to keep them alive if their quality of life is on the decline. My dog was only about 8 when we put her down because she has a bad hip and it was too painful for her to walk anymore. The vet couldn't figure out what was wrong with her so there wasn't much else we could do. I know it hurts, but time heals all wounds.

I known this cat. I loved it very much, but it wasn't my cat. It was my friends friends cat. She moved and i felt really bad to never see her and her cat again.

I had a dog I adored. A few months after her stroke, I decided she had suffered enough. At the vet's, I stayed with her and held her until she was gone. We were best friends, and I couldn't abandon her.

13 years later, I still miss her. She was a member of the family.
