Cooking is a communal thing. You should offer to help even if you are not asked.
They probably thought it would be a fun activity to do with guests. It's really nothing to feel upset over.
Such scumbags! Taking the time to invite you over, and expecting you to help out a bit with preparing the food they spent their money on! Christ, what is with people these days?
I probably wouldn't enjoy it very much as I don't even enjoy cooking for myself.
But weird unless previously arranged. Would be more of a friend thing than acquaintance, I would have thought.
