Maximing the space used in a trash bin

Things like folding up cereal boxes before trashing it or filling a cup with other trash rather than crushing it tossing it.

I have a heavy duty stapler that I use to staple empty folded cereal boxes before I throw them in the trash.

So introducing metal into the paper recylcing machinery? I'm pretty sure that's not a good idea.

Good point. But, newsprint is what is recycled. Cereal boxes and corrugated cardboard go straight to the landfill.

Well yeah that's just common sense and decency

Who would have thought that finally something informative and worthwhile to read on this site would be a big pile of garbage...

It's a good idea to compact rubbish where practical.

I do that with foilage: Compact a bunch of weeds into a neat lump and stuff them into black bags. Or remove all small twigs and leaves from big branches, stuff into said black bags, and then saw up the thick stem into small pieces and put into their own separate bag.

I squeeze plastic milk bottles as small as possible then tighten the lid so the vacuum keeps them compacted.
