Mental health and hospitals

Hello do any if you guys have experince with mental health hospitals? Someone who I've come to care deeply about is planning on administering himself to one for severe depression.

My education in this places consists of watching movies so naturally my thoughts are at there worst. I want him to get better and be happy but I dont want to be away from him. Idk any if yalls have experience with this stuff? Guess i could just some reassuring words

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I have been in and out of a few and in my experiences to depends on where you are some are good some are eh. But either way it helps even the bad ones are ok because they give you the help that you need. Your loved one will be fine is what I'm saying.

I know, right? Some people on this site are so insensitive! People should pay admission to see that.

Well, I'm not trying to be rude, but the truth is that there's always something going on in an acute psych ward.

I mean, I believe in a lot of circumstances its just who you are and it can't be changed.

Its like, look at you. You clearly have an issue. You are a male yet go to strong lengths to try and be female. Similar to mental illness, a little pill couldn't help you be normal now could it! You would have perfectly healthy organs cut away, you would have surgery on perfectly normal and healthy body parts, and its not like its needed, plenty of people who need surgery to save their lives. You would take chemicals to change hormones, ext. I would say thats mental illness and you yourself know clearly your mind set could not be changed with therapy or medication.

I'm not being mean or having a go at you, I'm just showing the similarity and how hard it can be to change a mind-frame.

You know I could argue many if these points but tor the same of redundancy I'll let it pass as I understand the example you are trying to make

Yes, I've been to one before. I would recommend you to tell him to tell them that he is voluntarily admitting himself. Tell him not to admit hes suicidal. The reason for this is you lose your gun rights for life if you are involuntarily committed. Voluntary and involuntary is a big difference in the eyes of the law. Even if you say you're voluntarily signing yourself in if you say you're suicidal they will involuntarily commit you anyway.

Asylums are for people with o alternative and often forced into treatment. From what I understand, outpatient care and self check in are structured more like a drug rehab center. Especially as addiction is treated like a mental illness.
