Mercy killing a cat, was i wrong?
There is a park that I go to jog the path regularly and bordering the southern part of the trail is a road that sees regular traffic. I was jogging in that park one morning and by my 3rd lap around, my IPod ran out of batteries so I put it into my car and continued the jog. On my 4th lap, while near the road, I heard a noise but ignored it. By the 5th, I heard it again, so I neared the road to get a closer look and I saw the cat.
Obviously, it had been hit by a car or two. The injuries were sickening. I worked for the Chicago medical examiner's office in the early '90s and I have seen my fair share of gore and this cat easily makes my Top 10. No amount of medical intervention would have saved that cat's life. The cat was miserable and was barely aware of my presence, every weak cry just broke my heart.
I went back to my car, grabbed my tire iron and severed what little was left of the connection in the cats neck. It was one swoop and the cat died instantly. Honestly, from the extent of the injuries, I am truly surprised that the cat was able to live as long as it did.
I have been thinking about this for the past 3 months and I wonder what you guys think of this.
