Military branch choices, which do i pick??

-Ill be reading all comments, and checking the poll results..

--Id like some input from those who have served or been in really.

---Ive talked to recruiters but.. you know what they say.

-Im 18, female, and unsure on which branch id like to serve in. I like to shoot guns, like the physical challenge it offers, and the combative experience will benifit me greatly, feeling like i can really defend myself is a comfort id cherish. ive had a couple run-ins where i felt helpless until someone else stepped in. One of them being a man coming onto me and my friends mother came out and said i was her daughter to get him to leave. Before he did, he pointed at me and said " You're lucky. " .. I want to be able to have made him regret it.
-Im 5'6" and currently underweight to get in, which i will obviously be fixing, because theres not really a choice there. I have terrible eyes with contacts and i know ill be wearing glasses in boot camp. I was wanting to become a welder, and if thats not available, then a mechanic of some sort and then something for computers is next up.
-To be brutaly honest, when i was first really wanting to go to the military, i had depression and was doing it because i felt that i had nothing anyway, so why not. I thought itd be a good thing to "keep me busy" so i didnt ever get too depressed at home... I gave away one of my dogs and my snake but had another dog and just couldnt do it again. I kept her and got a new snake now, and plan on waiting until after im out of boot camp to get a new puppy.
-I want to adopt kids and id really like to start as soon as i can. It's very important to me and one of the things that kept me going was the thought that i could make someone elses life better. So basically, .. I want a home life.
-So i started looking into National Guard or Reserves. And i just dont know which branch. Id like to hear from you experienced, what you have to say, advice you have to offer.
Thanks. :>

If by toughest and best camaraderie you mean standing standing at parade rest after a 12 hour patrol through eastern afgahanistan. Then yes. #fuckthat

I wanted to join the Army and jump out of airplanes, but they told me I had problems with authority.

From reading what your interests are, your best fit would be either the army or the marine corps. Having spent 4 years in the army I can tell you that you can find exactly what you're looking for except for the combatives part (which is why I went with marine). In the army you'll get some combatives training in basic but in the end it mostly depends on your assigned unit. Nonetheless, once you're done with training and end up at your unit you'll definetely have the opportunity to seek out combatives training outside of the military that you can do on your own time.

Or if by home life you mean that you already have an immediate family (husband/ kids) then yes you will definetely be living with them. If not then you will live in barracks but still be able to function as an adult.

There's no easy answer to this. If by home you mean your parents place then maybe because it all depends where you are stationed. After all it's up to the army's needs where you are placed. Either way you will get about four weeks of vacaction a year that you can visit wherever you please but that applies to any branch of the military.

Having a family life and being in the military isn't often compatible, especially with our current engagements.

There's been some decent advice given (as well as some garbage) but the biggest question is if being deployed repeatedly where you can't have a family life with your family (or pets) is going to be a problem because job guarantee or not, you can always end up getting sent very far from your family. And if you're enlisted the pay is pretty bad, even low level officers aren't great.

I'd get a college education so you can go to OCS and become an officer, your options, and exposure to actual danger will be much better.

Marines if you dont have a very good test score for asvab.(Trust me I scored very badly and Marines are the only one who will take my score)

Army is you want a specific job and dont want to be pushed very hard, like to live comfortably.

Coast guard if you want to be a rifle man, be pushed hard and got a good score on the asvab(50 and over). They are tough like the marines but are more ocean based like the Navy, and want a high test score like the navy.

Navy is you want a techy job and have a high score on the asvab.

Air-force is you have a great score, want to be pampered, get great benefits, and have not tried to enlist in any of the other services prior(Like did not take asvab with marines and decided you want the airforce instead) since they wont take you. This is from people who have tried doing so and were turned down from the airforce on those bases.

BTW all services beside the Marines guarantee you the job you ask for when you go in.

Also all Marines are shooters so no matter what position you get you get trained with a gun. Marines is also very good if you want to go infantry but they do not allow the girls into Infantry.

Being underwieght is okay. They just bulk you up so you gain a few pounds of muscle.

Also you should know you dont get a lot of benefits from the Marine corps if you are SIMPLY A RESERVE. You do get full benefits from the other services if you are reserve or not.
