Honestly I dread the day I face what your'e facing.
My cat means the world to me.
Shes the most honest person Ive ever known.
Even on my worst day she makes me smile.
But I know she wont live forever.
I know how you feel... Been there, done that.
Stock up on drinks. My current cat is 5 years old and she is still as playful and hyper as when she was a small kitten. I don't want to think what happens in 10 years. I care more about her, than I do for a lot of people.
It's very sad, and I'm sure you want to do the best for her, but I think at this point the best you can do is to just let her be in a favourite, warm, quiet place.
If she's not in any obvious discomfort, stressing her with visits to the vet is very unkind, and more about you than her.
She'll probably pass away soon. It's alright, if she's not in pain it'll be okay. If she starts having pain, it's time to put her down.
I seem to have been caught in a time warp here... two days ago he was 14 1/2 and you were still caring for your elderly mother... the mind boggles!
My aunt's old cat was the same; he wasn't sick or anything, but he decided when it was time for him to go. Stopped eating and was not active at all. One day he spent a lot of time with everyone in the house (he was normally very aggressive and would not approach anyone pleasantly other than my aunt), and then he disappeared a week later and never came back.
Cats are a lot wiser than people give them credit for. They know when they're about to pass and this may be a way that she is letting you know. Give her lots of love anyways.
