I think it's a reflection of the current culture, instead of the other way around. Especially in music
I mean, kind of? Culture is influenced by the movies, but the movies are also influenced by the culture. The culture came first, but movies can help steer that culture, provided the movie gains popularity.
The movies don't create the culture, though, because otherwise there wouldn't be a culture to create the movie.
For example if theres a movie that becomes really popular and the main character was very cool and he wears a leather jacket and chews a special kind of tabacco. I could see leather jacket sales and chewing tabacco sales to going up.
I also think if rap influences culture with young people.
Yeah, pretty much, but leather jackets and chewing tobacco had to already be available as products. The concept of a cool guy in a leather jacket probably occurred to the movie producers because they've seen it before.
Same thing with rap and hiphop. It influences people, but the rappers are still just dudes who were influenced by their own culture.
Ok yeah I see what you're saying. Youre right but it definitely helps spread it. There were people living "thug life" before gangster rap. But this "thug life" culture didnt really exist in suburban white neighborhoods until gangster rap brought it to them. Now you see upper middleclass whiteboys in the USA calling eachother Niggas and sagging their pants. This is a product of gangster rap glamorizing that lifestyle in movies and music.
Yeah, I mean that’s a no-brainer. Art (which includes movies, music, literature, etc.) has always been one of the most driving aspects of most cultures.
