My 16 year old friend still sucks her thumb

I have been friends with this girl since the 8th grade, however my first encounter with her was in the 7th. Someone pointed me out to her as "the girl who sucks her thumb". I thought this was weird, and must admit that I still do as she is now 16 and still does it. For instance, sometimes when we are in class copying down notes she just starts sucking her thumb.
Is this normal, because I feel that it is not, but maybe I'm just narrow-minded. Is it more common than I think?

    I don't think its that common. I'd probably consider it to be a bad habit, but those silly things like that, that don't cause much harm, can be hard to get over. Also, I think lots of people have silly little habits similar to sucking thumbs.

    I'm 18 and still suck my thumb. A lot of the time actually. Not out in public, but at home. I suck my thumb when I watch tv, use the computer, text my friends, but mostly when I try to go to sleep. It's not too common because it is considered "odd" once the person reaches like 7 ad still does it, but if she's truly your best friend you can overlook this bad habit.

    Many women I've dated were still sucking their thumb, usually when asleep so, yes, it's normal. What isn't normal was one woman who used to put HER thumb in MY mouth while I was asleep. This went on for the 2-1/2 years we dated and when it was over I couldn't sleep without a thumb in my mouth, mine. :(

    well im 26 and i still suck my thumb ive been sucking my thumb since i was 6 and its a habit that i cant stop doing and my boyfriend of 4yrs does not get mad at all

    It can just be a "outlet" type thing... where she is nervous or angry or horny and feels like her thumb is still an outlet

    Just seems like a bad habit is all

    Hah! I remember my old babysitter still sucked her thumb when she entered college. I dont know if she still does it though.

    I use to suck my thumb but I stopped when I was 10, I just went cold turkey on it LOL
