My dad doesn't treat me well

Before he had Diabetes, he treated me fair and like a proper father. After his diagnosis, I noticed how quick tempered he would get. Additionally he significantly got lazier. For example, he doesn't rinse dishes and doesn't put food away. Also, if I leave one basket of clothes in my room he would complain about my room being a pigsty while there's clothes scattered all around in his room. If I don't take care of it right away he grounds me by not letting me see my boyfriend. Maybe it's age, but my boyfriend told me his mom has diabetes. He described his mom as friendly. We got there and not even 3 days later, she was always on my boyfriend's and my case. I'm trying not to sound disrespectful, but is it old age or can the diabetes medications make people snort and grouchy? I'm 22 and the only reason why I live with my parents is because my mom and I have a close bond.

Perhaps it's the worry about the diabetes that is making him tense and he needs to get rid of the stress and there YOU are.

He can't ground you. You're a grown woman. Next time he tries to ground you just walk out the door. If he gets physical or threatening call the police and have him charged.

Getting a diabetes diagnosis changes your whole life. What you eat, what you drink, medication, schedules etc. He's probably really unhappy.

I don't think its an excuse to treat people poorly. I got diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago. Yes it changed my life. IMO it changed it for the better, but that's another story. That's no reason to take it out on people, because someone is unhappy. Good luck OP.

Never said it was justified. My dad is a right dick 90% of the time but I know he's depressed so I just ignore it. I'd suggest finding out what's making him like this and try to help, if he was such a good dad before.

    Time to move on.
I don't know about diabetes or the meds involved.
My family is active and healthy.
But, we usually die in our 80s.
