My dad's leg is hurting and we don't know why

So basically my dad has been having these really terrible leg pains but only in one spot. We can't stop it and it lasts for about 1-2 minutes. But after that, it's like it never happened. We made a doctor's appointment, but they won't see us until 5 weeks, and I don't want him to have these pains for 5 weeks. I'm really worried, so if anyone has anything to say about this, please do. Thanks a lot!

What kind of shitty doctor won't see you for 5 weeks? Man if I make an appointment about any little thing with my doctor I can see him the same or the next day.

Might be in the UK. When I still lived there I was often told the wait for a GP appt would be well over a month.

Same in Australia. Absolutely belting health service. UK could learn a lot from so many other places

I always assume USA for bad healthcare.

I know someone who has kidney failure, osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, but has had to wait months to go to a pain clinic. And it took til the third monthly visit there for them to even try to do anything for her.

In the USA, some of the ghetto doctors could be a long wait.

  • Might be muscle cramps. I have them all the time I got used to them. It hurts you to the point of tearing up a little bit (for about 1-2 minutes) and then it's all gone. They occur in the same places when something is wrong in your body. For example I have spinal damage and the corresponding point of pain is in the feet. I don't think it's very serious so waiting probably won't harm him.

Go to an urgent care clinic. They will see you that day.

He's not getting muscle cramps ? Have him try dating foods with good potassium and see if that helps. Bananas are good source. Sometimes I get little ones that.are pretty painful but they don't last long. Otherwise, he could try the closest critical care or emergency room.

    • Well he's described it as like just one nerve-section (?) Has this shooting pain all of a sudden. And it's on his right lower leg in the back area.

So not a Charlie horse cramp? Seems dumb to ask, but sometimes it's worth checking.

Is it nerve or muscle pain? Nerve pain is...not quite a pain. It's hard to describe.

It could be a range of things that only a doctor could really assess accurately, but in terms of pain management in the meantime, it depends on whether it's muscular or neural.

For muscular, try massage or a heating cream like this:

        https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mentholatum-Deep-Heating-Pain-Relieving-Rub-2-Tubes-2-OZ-57g-each/46108352

I've never tried that specific one, it's just to give you an example.

Neural pain...is more complicated. There are stretches and nerve flossing, but you'd really need to know what nerve was doing it. I've had sciatic pain down the back of my lower leg before, but there are other nerves it could be.

  • It doesn't look bad or anything, it just hurts really bad, apparently.
