My daughter is afraid of dolls?
So I recently bought my 5 year old daughter a new doll, and when she saw it, she screamed and ran away from it. I asked her what was wrong, and she told me that dolls were scary.

I remember my parents giving me a baby doll when I was a about three years old; I didn't want it. Girls don't always automatically like stereotypically female toys like dolls. I think you should take the stupid doll back to the store, and get refund. Ask your daughter what kinda toy she would like, and then buy her a toy with the money you got from returning the doll.
There are a lot of reasons for this. 1. She has watched or heard of scary doll movies. 2. The doll has weird facial or body features. Infants are very affected by something that doesn't look right (Like a weird doll face) Since she is comparing it with a normal human face she might be scared because she isnt used to a face looking like that. 3. Its just a common fear. Every person has a fear that can be weird and stupid for other people.
Kids have all kinds of irrational fears. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it’s a pattern..
Yes it’s normal. Some dolls are really creepy looking. The only dolls I was able to have as a child without getting scared were american girl dolls. They don’t really creep me out.
Dolls can be creepy. The more realistic, the creepier. I recently glanced at my mother-in-law's collection of baby dolls. There was something off-putting about their cold, soulless, eyes and little fixed smiles. You know, crafted to look that way and stare into your soul forever. I dunno, maybe I was in a bad mood at the time.
To add another anecdote, when I was five my dad bought me one of those Disney Sing-a-long VHS tapes. Some of the older people here might remember those. I ran away crying because there was a screenshot from Bambi on the back cover, and I was scared the scene where his mom gets shot would be on the tape. That was my reasoning, but looking back on it, I probably hurt my dad's feelings. I hope he doesn't remember that.
It's totally fine when she ages I'm sure she'll eventually grow out of being scared.
