My daughter took my phone after i confiscated hers

My daughter is 8. I took her phone from her because she was using it at the dinner table. I gave her plenty of warnings. Yesterday I couldn't find my phone and ended up going to work without out it. Last night she told me that she had taken it and wouldn't give it back until I gave back her phone. I wasn't able to find my phone in her room and her teacher couldn't find it at school.

    • Giving an 8 year old a phone is normal nowadays, because a lot of these phones can be used as "play phones".

I bought a phone for a ton of purposes, but have no service on it.

Neither is your apparent inability to distinguish between upper and lower case letters

  • She's gettin' smart, but also uppity. It's apparent that she doesn't respect you.

I guess now you'll have to out do her, and force her to tell you where your phone is. Shouldn't be hard, since you have more leverage.

If that was my kid they'd be grounded and phoneless. What does an 8 year old need a phone for anyway?

She must be beaten! She has valuable information!

    Don’t negotiate with terrorists!
To be fair she is using fear to get what she wants. Punish her for the assumed destruction of the phone. Get a flip phone to cover any business calls. Or a new phone if you have the capital to back it up. But an 8 year old doesn’t need a phone an iPod is barely debatable.

Exchange phones. That's a good deal. Then smash the fuck outta it. Parenting complete.

its what you called being spoilt, and being too nice to your children to "avoid hurting their feelings"
send her to live with brown parents for a month and she'll come back a different person

You stupid or what?, who's the parent here?. I would make the fing spoiled brat give back the phone and cancel her's easy as that. Go back to your carrier and get a new one and cancel your spoiled brat's line see how she likes it.

It is normal for kids to act that way without phones. I think kids these days are on their phones way to much. Just be dominant and tell her if she does not give it back she will never get hers back.

Extend her grounding. Don't let her win by disrespecting you like that. Show her that you can live perfectly fine without your phone, so she should do the same.

Normal, but make her give it back to you. I would have been scared shitless to do something like that to my parents. Pull the belt out and make it known what will happen if she doesn't lead you to that phone in the next 5 seconds.

I can’t even read this with a straight face.. she is taking you for a ride. Act like you don’t care. She’s being a little bitch, I have a daughter and I have been a daughter. I wasn’t easy. You tell her she isn’t having her phone back under any circumstances until she learns respect. Even if she tells you where her phone is, she doesn’t get hers back. Trust is a huge thing with children and she had betrayed yours. Giving her the phone back straight away will void any responsibility. She needs to earn it. You are the parent, ensure you act like it. Good luck x

I would simplify the matter, give her back the phone. Get her ice cream. And when you get back home all the nom nesscisties would be gone from her life including the phone. Then step 2 involved securing uour shit so a 8 year old vsnt steal it

Take something from her that she can't take from you. Like shelter, food and clothing.

March her ass to the police station. Theft is a crime and she should know the consequences of theft if she wants to play those games. She can either turn it over or be placed in juvie. It may sound extreme however, if this story is true, at 8 years old if she is capable of this type of behavior, then she needs to be held responsible. This is a kid going down the road to be a bad egg.

I am not sure if you are joking or not but I would not take her to no damn police station.
The parent would get arrested for being such a dumb ass and wasting the cops time.

I am not joking at all. Things like this are done all the time. My uncle was a cop for over 30 years. He always told stories like this. Kids thst dont fear consequences haver never faced for real consequences. This may just scare the kid a little straight. And if it does not, then they are in for one hell of a ride with this kid as she appears to be vindictive as hell.
I have no idea why you would think the patent would becarrested, that makes no sense. Community policing is a big deal and this falls right into that category.

You're right kids this days are over protected specially here in the USA. If it was another country that kid would have been beaten to a pulp for disrespecting a parent like that.....I have a sugguestion for OP, use the brat's phone as if it was yours and embarrass her ass on social media if she has any see how she likes it.
