My dog constantly almost gets hit by cars and traffic.

In the mornings, because there aren't many cars and (I thought) she's smart, she constantly trots in front of trucks and cars. I know I could (and I'll probably have to start to) use a leash, but she really enjoys walking without one. She's always been a smart animal, she figured out, almost right after we got her, how to nudge open the screen door with her snout. She never used to behave so stupid and carelessly. She's a 14 year old flat-coat retriever mix. She's a pretty good weight for her age, 70-75 pounds.

Her cognitive faculties are deteriorating . 4
Eye trouble. 3
Stroke. 1
Other. 5

Then keep her away from the road before she gets splattered all over it. My dog has no road sense whatsoever so I only walk her off leash well away from roads. I'm fortunate enough to live out of the city and realise it's not so easy for some dog owners to find a safe place.

What the hell don't you have leash laws! If she gets hit its your fault.

I can't believe you let her go leashless after she wandered onto the street the first time! That is being a negligent pet owner. Also, I don't know of any city that doesn't have leash laws anymore. Doesn't yours?

Throw a few bones in the street until your dog gets it right.

    Almost is not good enough!

She's 98 years old in dog years! (actually not really, dog aging slows down over time)

Are you sure she's not a cat? It sounds like she has 9 lives.

    • The two of us have been lucky, that's why I'm going to start using a leash as of tomorrow.
She's like a dog version of Mr. Magoo. It's unfortunate though, she loves the freedom of being leashless.

I LOVED Mr. Magoo! Now that was a funny cartoon. It took some true creative imagination to come up with all those situations without being repetitive, unlike the crap like the Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park.
