My dog is anorexic

I have a 6 lb dainty little male chihuahua. He used to eat all his food but for the past few months he hasnt been eating much, and counting the amount of kibble that he eats. I've caught him pacing in the other room to lose the calories he ate and when I saw him he stopped and had an embarrassed look on his face. When I take him to the dog park he sees other thinner dogs and will refuse dinner after. He barks at himself in the mirror cause he hates how he looks and thinks he's fat. Is this normal?

    My dog is a greyhound and had a similar problem. Greyhounds are seen as skinny so he never felt like he was good enough. He had a distorted body image and couldn't even watch dog races on tv without running to the backyard to puke. He would even induce puking by eating frogs/lizards. Good luck

    Is this some kind of joke? it's a dog it has no reasoning capacity to make itself anorexic, pace about to lose weight & watch itself in mirror all depressed. It probably has a tummy issue or something.

        Yes they do in a way, you don't eat so you lose a lot of weight, your perception of what you look like is completely distorted it's this one huge psychological thing, in a sense you make yourself anorexic because you are taking the necessary steps to do so even though it might not have been your intention from the start, well sometimes. I know this because I was anorexic for 7 years, pity one can never fully recover from this wretched mental illness

    Check to see if there's anything in his mouth. I saw something on tv that a dog wasn't eating because he had a bone stuck in his mouth and it hurt to eat. If you don't see anything, take him/her to the vet.

    When my dog stopped eating, it turned out he had stomach cancer. He died. Please take your dog to the vet as soon as you can- I doubt it's Anorexia.

    I think you really need to take him to the vet I don't think it's what you think it is. About the barking in the mirror thing, most dogs do that because they think its another dog. My dogs do it all the time, one acually tryed attacking the mirror.

    He's not a fucking anorexic you mong; take him to the vet. He could have worms or trouble with his digestive system or other such issue. What's wrong with people these days? Fucking anorexic...take him to the Betty Fird clinic then...

    My chihuahua will only eat food that has been cooked for him, like meats with rice etc. try giving him chicken and rice mixed. If not take him to the vet!

    Dogs will do anything for attention, good or bad. My dog digs up the trash and my vet said its cus he isnt getting enough nutrition and hes telling me to give him mor vareity of food

    Dogs don't feel shame. Thats just your imagination. In order to feel shame they would have to aknowledge the fact that they are who they are, and they can't.
