I can really relate to your situation. I had a dog for 19 years. My parents got him for me when I was a baby. When he passed, it felt like I lost a brother. It's been 2 years and I still get sad and cry when I think about him. I miss him. It took a long time for me to deal with his passing. It's going to take awhile for you too.
I wouldn't suggest going and getting another dog, like someone has already mentioned. It might be too soon for that. You'll only miss your beloved dog more.
If it has been awhile though, getting another dog might help. Almost like therapy. Just don't expect the new dog to be anything like your previous one. I've seen people who've gotten a new dog and were disappointed when it was nothing like their dog who passed away.
I'm sorry for your loss, it will get better though. Keep your head up.

I found a dog onthe side of the road right before ginger passed and it has been somewhat of a blessing that although similar inappearance....ruby has none of gins human qualities. She is all dog and takes a lot of the sting out some days....somehow
