Today I received my first black eye from a pathetic little scratch. My vision is fine but I look like I’ve been socked in the face by a muscle-bound leather-clad biker with a handlebar moustache. My introduction for the next two weeks will have to be “You should’ve seen the other guy”.

That's pretty good honestly. I got in a few fights in grade school. As well as the fact my friends and I used to play full contact every sport growing up. I've had more black eyes than I care to think about. Might explain some of my thinking.
Nah, it's not too old for a black eye. I doubt anyone that sees you is going to think that.
I only know a few people who had black eyes & only 1 of them had 1 in their 20's. All of them got theirs from accidents. As for me.
I'm 27 & never had 1 despite peoples best efforts.
Oh yeah that’s considered ancient where I come from. We played British bulldog as 6 year olds which, if you’re not familiar with, the only rules are to stand in a line facing a team on the other side standing in a line, and run at each other, full pelt. Ever seen Mel gibsons gladiator? That kinda sums it up, but replace Scots and Brits with 6 year olds and you get the picture
Ah, that game was the stuff of legend by the time I entered primary school. I remember teachers insisting we weren’t to play it but I don’t think any of us actually knew what it was, I used to wonder if it meant pretending to be bulldogs and biting each-other. Maybe if I’d been born a few years earlier this wouldn’t be my first black eye.
