My little chihuahua keeps choking out of nowhere

My poor little Chihuahua won't stop suddenly choking! Out of nowhere she just starts making weird honking sounds and starts to open her mouth real wide as if trying to puke or spit out something stuck in her throat. She usually does this when excited, but sometimes it is randomly,I am really worried about that little dog, she is only 3 years old, and I love her very much.Just recently she was having that attack and puked out white liquid, I am worried that she has a stomach infection, So can someone please help me?

    To all the Chiuaua haters. I use to hate chiuauas too but I got to know a few and their demeanor is so wonderful. They make great dogs. Don't hate on them till you spend time with them. Yes some of them are annoying as hell but that has nothing to do with the kind of dog, it has everything to do with the way their owners raise them. All kinds of dogs can be annoying, I've worked with dogs for many years and chiuauas are one of my favs now.

      I've spent time with them, that's why I hate the ugly, bad-tempered, needy, whiney, barking little pieces of s--t!

        I have to..a girl shes a year my boy is 11 weeks...they are wonderful...they aint bad tempered..and they dont bark alot...so sorry not all of there are like that ..they aint rats either..id rather have them, then some huge slobbery whiny piece of shit!!!....

        It's true that they look like rats, dude. I have one and I gotta say, having an over-grown rat is a helluva lot better than having a big, nasty, stinkin' needy dog always smacking, licking and farting up your domain.

          Why not just get a rat? Rats are a hundred times cleaner than filthy, stinking dogs and they don't bark and whine.

    Yes mine does this also what you do is you just rube their throats and it should make them stop.

    My Chi does this . It's called reverse coughing. It's like the above poster said that it has to do with their tracheas being too small. I found a way to help her however. Cup your hand around her nose and make her face lean down. Hold til she swallows and it stops.

    It's very common w Chihuahuas, I have one too. Every chihuahua Ive known does it. The vet told me it's because they're trachias are so small. There's a specific name for it, but I can't remember. Just to be sure, go see the vet. If it is what I think, it's nothing serious & doesn't harm them.

        It could be kennel cough, but to be on the safe side, you should visit your vet.

    My little one does this, he doesn't open his mouth though. I just rub his throat and he stops. Hope I was a help. Xx.

    I have two girl puppies chihuahuas and they are beautiful and loving but sooo jealous if I give love to one, the other is,mad.. go figure.

    Unfortunataly, chihuahua's are prone to heart conditions, like mine was. He had an enlarged heart, causing his heart to press against his throat, causing him to cough and continously look like they are going to vomit. My chihuahua was old tho, so this may not be the case as yours is only 3. Still worth taking her to the vet tho and finding out....Goodluck!

    I don't understand you people and your friggin' chihuahuas. if you want a dog, get a dog! If you want a rat, get a rat! But don't try to combine the two with a barking rat which is what a freakin' chihuahua is. No, I take that back, calling a chihuahua a rat is an insult to rats!
