My mom left me in the hot car as a kid

She left me in the car with closed windows when she went shopping, often for hours. I remember one time I was so thirsty I tried to drink lemon concentrate from one of the grocery bags in the back. I was told to keep the windows closed and the doors locked because she didn't want me kidnapped. Is it normal for a mom to lose track of time when shopping and endanger her kid's life?

it says that you can leave a kid 8 and under in the car alone, but it is wrong to have you suffer in such a hot car. honestly i am not even sure your mom realizes this though. just make sure your kids are not going to have to deal with the same thing.

Not normal when a mom care more about her shopping than her own flesh and blood. But then again you probably were on of those kids that threw tantrums if you wanted something from the store and you didn't get your way. She just probably wanted to avoide you making a scene but she almost killed you in the process.

Parents who do this should be locked in a hot car for as long as they left their kid or kids in one. I don't even leave my dog in a hot car: if I need to take her out with me I give her a swim in the river first and leave the car running with the aircon on.

  • That happened to me as a kid too, my step mom worked at a nursing home and went to pick up something from her office. Told me to wait for her in the car with the two dogs, (two bulldogs).

It got so fucking hot— this was the middle of summer in Florida. I honestly thought I was going to die, so I opened the door of the car and held the dogs inside by their collar as I tried to breathe. Meanwhile, the car alarm was blaring and this old man was yelling at me.

She felt so bad and honestly thought she left the car on.

Maybe they're still locked in the car 20 or 30 years later.
